Unsteady compressible flow problems exhibit many flow features such as vortices, shocks, turbulence, etc. It is highly unlikely that any single numerical method can be the “best one” for all cases. We discuss the concept of hybrid methods in terms of accuracy, stability and efficiency and exemplify with problems that deal with complex geometry and shocks.
