Travel and site access

LBL is situated in the hills above the University of California, Berkley comfortable footwear is recommended.

Local Travel

Directions to 54 Cyclotron Rd, Berkeley, CA 94720 will lead you to the Blackberry Gate (the main entrance to the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory).

Recently GPS systems have taken visitors to our other less direct gates based on our physical address, the address 2727 Hearst Rd. Berkeley, CA is on the same road as our front gate and can be used in a GPS for better navigation.

Once your GPS reports you are at your destination please continue to drive up the road you will see the Lawrence Berkley National Laboratory Sign off the road to the left. Continue through the left-hand hairpin turn to the front gate.

We have contacted each attendee individually regarding your arrival method either by driving/carpooling or taking public transportation.

If you are driving be sure to show the printout of your visitor parking pass, along with a valid PHOTO ID, to the gate guard. Place a printout of the pass on your dashboard. (Parking information is listed below)

If you are taking public transportation you should have received a bus pass. Please print the pass and show it to the bus driver upon entering the bus. (Bus stop locations are listed below)

If you are a passenger in a carpool your name has been included at our gate. Please be prepared to show a valid ID.

Parking

Please be aware of the special parking restrictions on site. Please do not park in any parking spaces with either orange circle or blue triangle markings on the ground. Also, do not park in any reserved parking spaces or carpooling spaces (these carpooling spaces, require employee parking passes to be valid)

There are 3 parking lots closest to the event location circled on the map below (in orange) you are welcome to parking in other parking lots around the site as long as the above guidelines are followed. Please be aware that the employees at LBL have the same parking access you do early arrival will reduce your chance of having trouble finding a parking spot.

E : If you park in the E lot, you can walk up Chu Road bearing right at the circle onto Smoot then right on to Seaborg Rd.

D : To get to the D lot bear to the left at the circle onto Alvarez Road, just before Alvarez road goes uphill the entrance road (downhill) will be on your left. This parking lot will have the most parking available however it is below the road level, you will need to walk up a staircase towards Chu Road. Signs will be posted to help you.

B1 : This parking lot is mostly a construction zone, there are not many parking spaces here (regardless of how large it looks on the map).

J : Turn right at the circle onto Smoot Road continue past Seaborg Rd this parking lot will be on your right at the bend of the road.

Taking Public Transportation

If you are taking BART from any Bay Area location your endpoint will be the downtown Berkeley BART station on the red or orange line depending on origination point.

Once at the downtown Berkeley BART station you can find the LBL Shuttle stop, locate the Bank of America across the street (corner of Center and Shattuck). Head towards the bank and walk north on Shattuck towards the main bus stop area — the shuttle bus stop is marked for Berkeley Lab and is in front of the Sandwich Zone shop, just past the bank. Wait for a marked Laboratory shuttle bus which will bring you directly to Berkeley Lab (see the directions for using our shuttle. See other transit information here).

On-Site Locations

The map above shows the location of the building 50 auditorium (called out as the event location). The auditorium is located at the top of Seaborg Rd. please look for directional signs along the road to aid you in finding the correct location.
